• Children: Becoming like children, ministering to children, learning from children.
• Paradoxes: Living out the paradoxes of Jesus—the first are last and the last are first, big things comes from small things (the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed), life is birthed from death (John 12:24), etc.
• Belief: Do we really believe the paradoxes that Jesus taught?
why 8th street?
God led us to 8th St. because of the presence of five pillars of our community: key representatives of government,
the Church, educational institutions, the business realm, and the social service sector. All five of these pillars are found on this one street. God placed us in the midst of this authority and influence to be an engaged spiritual presence in our city. The educational realm has been most vivid on our radar screen up to this point. With the Lebanon middle and high schools nearby, we see hundreds of students pass by our doors each day.
In December of 2008 we moved into a storefront property housed in a building that was formerly home to the local Masonic lodge. Currently, we share this space with the Lebanon Valley House of Prayer.
mission statment
Becoming like children so that we can believe and live out the paradoxes of Jesus.
what does life look like at Cornerstone 8th street?
Our paradigm for worship and ministry is based on the structure of a tree, the concept of which was birthed through a conversation on God’s design for 8th Street.
.roots. • Be obedient to His Word and His Spirit
The foundation of Cornerstone 8th Street’s worship and ministry is based in three inseparable roots: Obedience, Humility, and Submission. God made it clear from the beginning that He desired us to engage Him primarily out of these postures. We must:
• Approach Him humbly with a broken and a contrite heart
• Submit ourselves wholly to His will—for the city, for the Church, for the Kingdom.
.trunk. • With the reconciling power of the Gospel, desiring unity within the Body of Christ in Lebanon, as well as between God’s Church and His city
From these postures, Cornerstone 8th Street seeks to worship and minister in a spirit of Unity, Service, and Prayer. We intend to engage all things:
• In the service of and care for our city, its people (especially its children), and its institutions
• In constant pursuit of intercession for Lebanon—her people, her children, and her institutions
.fruits.
The manifestation of this trunk and these roots is our active, physical worship and ministry. Out of Obedience, Humility, and Submission, we worship with other churches and engage youth ministry with Iglesia El Faro—in a spirit of unity. Out of Obedience, Humility, and Submission, we clean up Lebanon’s parks and participate in outreaches to our community—in a spirit of service. Out of Obedience, Humility, and Submission, we pray through the Lebanon Daily News and share ministry space with the Lebanon Valley House of Prayer — in a spirit of prayer. Whether we are volunteering in the middle and high schools, going on prayer walks, or simply picking up trash, we are doing so in worship.
